Teaching and Learning
EQUELLA is a web-based digital repository originally developed for the teaching and learning sector within the Australian education market. EQUELLA was developed by educators, for educators in order to manage online learning content and make it available to students and instructors in a variety of ways.
- Central storage and management of learning content: EQUELLA is a content-centric solution capable of storing and managing a variety of content, relevant to a teaching and learning environment. Learning content within EQUELLA can be rich HTML web pages, packaged learning content such as IMS, SCORM and METS packages, images, sounds, videos, PDF documents, MS Word™ documents, ZIP files, journal articles, book chapters, links to items, files and web pages, and much more.
- Easy discovery of existing content: EQUELLA’s capacity to easily search and browse for learning content by keyword and user-defined categories increases the ease of discoverability of content, and provides opportunities for time savings and reduced duplication of effort through re-use of relevant existing content or templates.
- Easy access to learning content for educators and students: EQUELLA is a web-based solution that enables anywhere, anytime access to learning content either directly through a web interface, or seamlessly integrated with an existing learning management system.
- Classify: EQUELLA enables easy classification of learning content by allowing information describing an item’s content to be stored with that item. This “metadata” is fully discoverable and searchable, is chosen by the institution and can include information such as subject areas, content difficulty, typing information, descriptive text and other keywords and controlled vocabularies as desired.
- Share and collaborate: EQUELLA simplifies the process of collaboration amongst educators, enabling learning content to be shared and developed in partnership with other users.
- Quality assurance process: EQUELLA supports simple through complex workflow processes to enable institutions to moderate the learning content production and release process, and ensure the availability of high quality, good practice materials to educators and students.
- Version control: EQUELLA allows learning content to have multiple versions with different statuses (draft, live, moderating, etc) enabling content currently in use to be modified and reviewed without impacting on their use.
The EQUELLA approach to product strategy is the notion of “Content Without Limits”. The principle behind this idea, is that the best way to manage institutional content is to create a centrally managed “engine” to share, create and manage content across that institution, without boundaries or limitations. Learning environments are the structures, tools and communities that inspire students and educators to attain knowledge and skills. Real learning occurs when these systems are artfully integrated into a seamless whole in which each system reinforces each other.
In addition to serving as a digital repository, a number of our customers integrate EQUELLA with a variety of third-party applications relevant to the Teaching and Learning environment, such as learning management systems. This assists institutions to maintain a centralised “Content Without Limits” approach in the creation, management and delivery of online learning.
